Maxine Brown — Recipes and News

Hello Everyone!

1. I was deeply touched by this note received recently:

To: Maxine Brown

From: MGST. Monte L. Railsback, USMC (Ret)

“MAXINE, I WAS LISTENING TO BILL MACK ON SIRUS/XM SATELLITE RADIO WHEN HE WAS  INTERVIEWING YOU ABOUT YOUR BOOK, ‘LOOKING BACK TO SEE’.  THEN, WHEN HE PLAYED ‘TAKE IT OUT IN TRADE’ AND MENTIONED YOUR WEBSITE, IT REKINDLED MY DESIRE TO CONTACT YOU TO FIND OUT IF YOU REMEMBERED SENDING YOUR LP OF ‘SUGAR CANE COUNTY’ TO A GROUP OF MARINES STATIONED IN VIETNAM IN 1969?

“WHEN THE PACKAGE ARRIVED WITH THE VINYL LP, WE WERE THRILLED BEYONG BELIEF THAT A COUNTRY MUSIC STAR WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO SEND US HER ALBUM.  WHENEVER THE GENERATOR WAS WORKING AND WE HAD ELECTRICITY, WE PLAYED THAT ALBUM AND WILL FOREVER BE GRATEFUL TO YOU FOR TAKING OUR MINDS AWAY FROM THE SITUATION WE WERE IN.

“MAXINE, THANK YOU FOR BRINGING JOY INTO THE WORLD AND ESPECIALLY FOR RECORDING ‘SUGAR CANE COUNTY’.  IT IS UNIQUE THAT THE ALBUM IS GETTING A NEW LIFE AFTER 41 YEARS AND THE FACT THAT IT SERVED IN A COMBAT ZONE. I WILL NEVER FORGET YOUR THOUGHTFULNESS AND SUPPORT FOR SENDING US MARINES IN 3rd, BATTALION, 4th MARINES A VINYL LP OF ‘SUGAR CANE COUNTY’ WHILE WE WERE UP ALONG THE DMZ IN VIETNAM.  I AM SURE IT IS STILL BEING PLAYED SOMEWHERE OVER THERE ON A HAND CRANK RECORD PLAYER.  ‘YOU ARE ONE CLASSY LADY’. THE MARINES IN MY DIVISION LOVE YOU.'”

*** You will never know how much that means to me Monte. Thank you!  (Maxine)

2. Here’s a refreshing summer recipe from my mother’s famous Trio Club restaurant.

Feedback on the recipes has been wonderful. Some Country Music radio hosts have even told their audiences about them! I know it would have made my mother so proud. Let me know what you think if you have time to try them.

Romaine/Chicken Salad

1      Package Chicken Breast Tenders, (about 8), cut up, cooked and sauteed in oil.
1      Head Iceberg Lettuce, chopped thin
1      Bunch Green Onions, chopped
1      Tablespoons Sesame Seed
2      Packages Sliced Almonds, toasted  in butter
1      Package Chicken Flavored Romaine Noodles, crumbled
Mix all the above together.  Toast Almonds in enough butter to coat well. Place in hot oven for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the following:
1/2   Cup Olive Oil, or Canola
1/4   Cup White Vinegar
1/4   Cup Sugar
2     Tablespoons Soy Sauce
SEASONING PACK THAT CAME WITH THE ROMAINE NOODLES.

Mix all this together then pour over the lettuce mixture and mix well.  Serve in a lettuce lined bowl.

Always a pleasure to be with you!

Cordially,

Maxine Brown
